Personalization of Religion
(One Size Does Not Fit All)
If I depart, I cast no look behind
Still wed to life, I still am free from care.
Since life and death in cycles come and go,
Of little moment are the days to spare.
Thus strong in faith I wait, and long to be
One with the pulsings of Eternity.
Taoist Poet Po Chu-I (A.D. 772-846)
I believe our earth-centric human civilization is in the process of being transformed into a much more advanced stellar civilization if only enough of us can grasp and apply the larger context of our lives. Earth science, technology, religion and politics are really just in their infancy as compared to more advanced civilizations extraterrestrial and
beyond. I hope the evidence in this book has helped the reader to understand and have hope because we are so much more than the limited people we really think we are. If enough of us can break our illusionary materialistic chains to focus on our own individual consciousness development, society as a whole will change just as clouds change when their component raindrops change.
As we take responsibility as a society and more of us move above 200 on the Hawkins’ Scale, we can transform ourselves and our planet. As the more advanced beings both embodied and disembodied are showing us we must give up our primitive, violent ways and trade them for wonderful opportunities just around the corner. Yes, nature is brutal and violent and to survive we also had to be this way in order to survive and for our children to survive. If we did not become warriors we could not have rose to the top of the food chain and establish ourselves there. However, our horizons or context is expanding and what might have worked and is working now, will not be able to bring us from a planetary civilization to a stellar one.
We have to leave the old ways of thinking and acting behind in favor of more civilized behaviors within our own society and without. In nature there are both competition and cooperation, and animals like wolves have to be fierce to protect and defend the pack and to hunt prey. Yet, on the other hand they have to be caring and ethical within the pack, else the conflicts within the pack make the pack weak and vulnerable to destruction by other more coherent packs of wolves. In the natural world there is this balance between competition and cooperation that adjusts itself to the environment in which the pack exists.
Apparently from all that we are being shown by more advanced intelligences is that to move forward in our evolution we have to adjust and increase our cooperativeness and lessen our aggressiveness. We have to do this because as we leave earth and move into space, the social environment changes because we enter the domain of these more advanced intelligences. As they point out to their contact people, apparently the universe is becoming more civilized with less brutality and conflict and more love and compassion. So in order to get along in the neighborhood we have to adapt and leave more of our warrior natures behind and increase our spiritual development becoming more cooperative and less competitive and aggressive.
We hear across the board from those having contact with advanced intelligences, whether from NDEs or extraterrestrial contact, that we are going through a transition period. Either we become less aggressive or we stagnate and collapse our civilization until such time we do decide to become more loving and less aggressive.
Historically, religious rhetoric or teachings handed down to us through many generations stresses the importance of doing the inner work necessary to increase cooperation by becoming more loving and compassionate. These teachings have limited effectiveness because human society is brutal as is the rest of nature. When free thinking reformers speak out they are often violently suppressed by autocratic political and religious rulers. In our society the most brutal and aggressive people move up the human food chain to reign over their general populations.
As I have shown, our external environment is changing where more advanced intelligences are offering us a helping hand if only we will work more on ourselves to become less brutal and more loving. They are offering us societal environments where cooperation rather than competition is the name of the game. However we have to be willing to sacrifice our more primitive natures in order to gain their help. So far our warrior chiefs have declined this help not yet ready to evolve into this more civilized social environment and fearing contact with more advanced intelligences as a threat to their rule over the earth.
Best I can tell from the very many contact cases, advanced ETs have tried contacting our leaders and have been rebuffed and their existence covered up, leaving the more advanced ETs working alongside more disembodied, advanced intelligences to appeal to the public as a whole. The idea seems to be to educate the public irrespective of the public’s leadership hoping new, less aggressive leaders will come to the fore to guide humanity into a more expansive future. Obviously helpers can only do so much and if the whole society becomes aware of the helpers and they are still rejected by the public in mass, then they will have to withdraw and let nature take its course. This way our free will is maintained as well as theirs.
In this chapter I want to talk about the personalization of our thinking and acting especially as it relates to our religion and politics. We’ve got to get a handle on this herd mentality where we get owned by corporations, nations, political parties, and religions. We come to identify ourselves as a republican, democrat, nation or company and fall into group think. This ultimately causes polarization and conflict where we emphasis the faults of other groups and dismiss the faults of our own group same as we do individually. The result is blame mongering, violence and war between conflicting groups and nations.
Religion like politics is a powerful driver of our thought and actions and we can’t have ourselves owned by our religion no more than by a nation or a corporation. We have to maintain our freedom of thought and action. Once we can realize that we are all unique individuals learning unique individualized lessons, then we can realize that we need a personal religion; a personal politics customized to each of us. In the case of both religion and politics, we have to study all religions and politics and out of this huge database we can determine what is useful to us and reject what is not. I don’t quite know how to articulate this concept better, but as individuals and as a civilization we have got to get this right else we continue to maim and kill each other in the name of some nation, ethnic or racial group or religion. We can’t just march off to war like lemmings over a cliff just because our autocratic, psychopathic leaders of nation, company or religion say it’s a noble thing to do.
We need an accurate, individualized political perspective, and an individualized religious perspective as a map to the terrain in which we operate. As I have pointed out, we have to have context to know where we are, where we want to go and see how to get there. Because we each are at heart wonderful, beautiful entities with unique natures, we have to have our own unique path to enlightenment. One size does not fit all and anyone who says that is not so is exerting control over your mind and body from a position of power and privilege. In other words, they are predator and you are prey to the religion or politics they control.
For myself, my religious road map or doctrine draws heavily from Eastern religions and not so much from Western religions such as Christianity which I see as quite flawed due to 1500 years of the suppression of reincarnational doctrine and a personal relationship with God. Martin Luther took on the Catholic Church and straightened out much of Christianity in regards to the importance of a personal relationship with God or All That Is. He understood that one does not need to go through an autocratic, self-serving privileged class accepting favors to get close to God. We all have to take responsibility for our own behaviors that then will lead us to God.
Reincarnation doctrine on the other hand remains suppressed and dismissed by most Christians because the doctrine was cursed and purged from Church doctrine in the 6th century by orthodox Christian leaders and never really was integrated back as was the concept of a personal relationship with God. Millions of people were persecuted and murdered to stomp out these two important doctrines because they supported taking responsibility for our lives and actions. The violent purges left a very deluded and inaccurate model of the overall Christian religious context.
I think that the Western religions are not going to adapt easily to the greater context being presented to us by more advanced intelligence’s doctrine. Buddhism and Hinduism are both much better positioned for the advancements in the 21st century. This is because they exhibit a remarkable tolerance for diverse individual perspectives and in the West the Jewish doctrine seems to be the most tolerant as Jews can argue doctrine intensely without falling into violence over differing perspectives and interpretations. New churches like the Unity Church also have promise.
The Jews have not suppressed reincarnational thought and doctrine like the Christians have. However, I think Jews, Christians and Muslims are on the wrong track and becoming deluded in regards to one all-encompassing God unless this is equated to consciousness itself. These Western religions have been slow to incorporate new scientific knowledge into their religious doctrines as well as ignore some aspects of NDE and UFO experiences that do not agree with the way they have been indoctrinated into these religions. Christians have been more accepting of NDE cases for instance, because this supports the general idea of eternal life, but reincarnation and the self-responsibility it entails is mostly dismissed by the rank and file. Obedience to church authority trumps free thinking in the minds of the orthodox.
There does seem to be a move afoot amongst religious people in recent times to experiment with other religions other than the one they were indoctrinated into. This is a good thing and paves the way to individualized, customized religion. I myself arrived at my own customized religion by experimenting with other religions trying them on for size so to speak. I was indoctrinated into the American dominant religion, Christianity, at a young age.
However, obviously it did not stick well and my parents only made me go to Church up to the point where I began to resist, then they backed off. Conformity to the Church was more a political action on their part as they wanted to be accepted into the local community. They themselves were not really into Christianity, but more directed to a highly spiritual, naturalistic religion. My father told me that the old growth Longleaf Pine forest of Greenwood Plantation was his cathedral where the forest canopy was supported by the tall, Longleaf Pine trunks.
My mother got interested in much of the same stuff I did after my existential crisis, but even before that, both mother and father were well on the way to the concept of an individualized religion unique to each individual the same as with their close naturalist associates and friends like Herb Stoddard. I grew up in a very spiritual environment surrounded by very intelligent, religious, scientific people with strong ethics and morality and an overriding desire to know truth and adjust their actions and thinking accordingly.
After all, the basis for religion, science, and politics should be love and truth, but unfortunately lies and intolerance are the currency of the day. One wonders if people can’t or won’t deal with the basics of enlightenment, how are they ever going to develop the sophisticated model or roadmap needed to guide their path to enlightenment. “Sigh.” Obviously more suffering will be necessary.
I remember in my existential crisis in my early 20s that I figured the best way to get on the path to enlightenment was to start with the basics and work from there. In fact, it was this encounter with beings of light that came to me when I was at rock bottom with this very message in a thought-form that interpreted into words was, “your vehicle is honesty, the fuel for the vehicle is love and your path is truth.” Over my lifetime I have built the religious, scientific, political infrastructure around this concept and it has served me very well. One cannot know truth until one stops lying to others and to oneself and if one does this and always tells the truth then everything else in life will fall into place. Little white lies are especially devious as they are cumulative and easily rationalized.
Lies, dishonesty, cover-up, intolerance and violence build up illusions and delusions in the mind making us all mentally ill. We have to sacrifice them to truth, love and compassion. This is the basis and the foundation for a good life. It’s a long hard road full of suffering until we get it and can evolve beyond suffering into domains of great joy, bliss and love. I wish everyone reading this the best and hope this book has been useful to you in your personal, individualized journey to enlightenment.
I am very grateful to all those in my life that took the time to mentor and help me evolve. It’s like a staircase where the ones above reach down to pull up those below. Once we get on the staircase, we realize that the way up is through cooperation with intelligences above and below us.
It’s the only way as we won’t get far asking for favors without giving favors in return. We can only be helped to the degree we are able to help others as there is no other way. Nobody is separate from anybody else no matter how advanced. We are all interconnected and we help or hurt ourselves in how we deal with others.
I once had a very powerful dream where I was in a spaceship shooting at people on the ground, then I was one of those people on the ground shooting back at the spaceship. Next thing I know I was in the company of Christ who said, “See all are one, and to kill another is to kill your own self.” So let’s all try to be a little more tolerant of the lessons being learned by others, just as we expect others to be tolerant of our actions and lessons.
We must also keep in mind not to become obsessed with only ourselves. Humanity is only one small part of life so how we treat other life is just as important to our future as how we treat ourselves. Lord Hugh Dowding, the British Air Chief Marshal, articulates this idea very well. It was Lord Dowding who triumphed over the German Air Force, saving Britain from invasion in World War Two. In his paper on The Painful Experiments on Animals delivered before the House of Lords on July 18, 1957 he had this to say about our poor treatment of animals in relation to reincarnational doctrine. The same should be said for our whole relationship with nature.
“I firmly believe that painful experiments on animals are morally wrong and that it is basically immoral to do evil in order that good may come – even if it were proved that mankind benefits from the suffering inflicted on animals. . . I cannot leave this subject without some reference to its esoteric side – to the place of the animal kingdom in the scheme of things, to man’s responsibility to animals, and to the results of man’s failure to meet this responsibility.
As the human race evolves, it becomes ready for fresh revelation, and the defect in most of the world’s religions is that they fail to realize this very important fact. The priests are inclined to say ‘everything that is necessary for salvation is contained in this Book. It is unnecessary and, indeed impious, to search elsewhere.’ It is I think, this aspect of our childhood’s teaching which leads to the idea that animals have no continuing life after physical death.
That phrase in the 49th Psalm, ‘The beasts that perish,’ has much to answer for, for it is a fact that the beasts do no perish any more than do men. All life is one, and all its manifestations with which we have contact are climbing the ladder of evolution. The animals are our younger brothers and sisters, also on the ladder but a few rungs lower down than we are. It is an important part of our responsibilities to help them in their ascent, and not to retard their development by cruel exploitation of their helplessness.”
Enlightenment in a Transhuman Future
Our technological progress is accelerating exponentially according to leading Transhumanist Ray Kurzweil. He expects us to enter into a technological singularity where man merges with his machines around 2045 based on technological trends. Ray, a Google employee and officer, has been remarkably accurate in predicting technological progress through the study of longstanding stable technological trends. The goals of the first Transhuman Human Body Version 2.0 as stated are: [29]
“In the coming decades, a radical upgrading of our body’s physical and mental systems, already underway, will use nanobots to augment and ultimately replace our organs. We already know how to prevent most degenerative disease through nutrition and supplementation; this will be a bridge to the emerging biotechnology revolution, which in turn will be a bridge to the nanotechnology revolution. By 2030, reverse-engineering of the human brain will have been completed and nonbiological intelligence will merge with our biological brains.”
“In fact, the reverse engineering of the human brain has already been announced to be well under way via new microchips and accompanying software. And, while full nanobot rewiring of the brain is not expected before 2020, Phys.org has reported that our DNA has been successfully targeted by nanobots "for drug therapy or destruction."
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Ray Kurzweil states that nanobot computers will enter our brain and connect us with Cloud computing as well as with all the cells of our body. Nanobots are no longer speculation as they are already being developed, especially in the medical profession. Kurzweil expects the integration of our body and machine will be introduced incrementally continuing current technological trends and not take us over immediately and in mass. Personally I am not so sure about this takeover at a certain point as there could be a rapid and immediate integration with unexpected beneficial and even dire outcomes to our free will and consciousness. Kurzweil states:
“It will be an incremental process, one already well under way. Although version 2.0 is a grand project, ultimately resulting in the radical upgrading of all our physical and mental systems, we will implement it one benign step at a time. Based on our current knowledge, we can already touch and feel the means for accomplishing each aspect of this vision.
Researchers from Columbia University have developed a fleet of molecular nanorobots that can deliver drugs to specific cells and also identify certain genetic markers by using fluorescent labeling. After such identification, a chain reaction can be initiated: “On cells where all three components are attached, a robot is functional and a fourth component (labeled 0 below) initiates a chain reaction among the DNA strands. Each component swaps a strand of DNA with another, until the end of the swap, when the last antibody obtains a strand of DNA that is fluorescently labeled.
At the end of the chain reaction—which takes less than 15 minutes in a sample of human blood—only cells with the three surface proteins are labeled with the fluorescent marker. Naturally, this type of targeted therapeutic approach could prove beneficial, as the researchers highlight -- especially for cancer treatment which sweeps up healthy cells along with malignant ones, very often doing more harm than good (if one were to choose the establishment medical route).
This is always how new technologies are sold to the public, however, and it would be naive not to consider the darker applications as well. Direct brain modification already has been packaged as "neuroengineering." A Wired article from early 2009 highlighted that direct brain manipulation via fiber optics is a bit messy, but once installed ‘it could make someone happy with the press of a button.’ Nanobots take the process to an automated level, rewiring the brain molecule by molecule. Worse, these mini droids can autonomously self-replicate, forcing one to wonder how this genie would ever be put back in the bottle once unleashed.”
While Kurzweil does not tell us how such technological progress will affect the process of enlightenment, it’s obvious that the effects could make a personal and a collective form of advanced enlightenment possible. Ray gives us scenarios as to how these nanobots are and will enter our bodies with a level of participatory choice but the reality is that nanobots will eventually be everywhere and could affect consciousness and free will. The article in the Activist Post continues:
“A significant benefit of nanobot technology is that unlike mere drugs and nutritional supplements, nanobots have a measure of intelligence. They can keep track of their own inventories, and intelligently slip in and out of our bodies in clever ways. One scenario is that we would wear a special ‘nutrient garment’ such as a belt or undershirt. This garment would be loaded with nutrient bearing nanobots, which would make their way in and out of our bodies through the skin or other body cavities. That might seem to offer a level of participatory choice -- to wear or not to wear the garment -- but Kurzweil reveals that the nanobots will eventually be everywhere:
Ultimately we won’t need to bother with special garments or explicit nutritional resources. Just as computation will eventually be ubiquitous and available everywhere, so too will basic metabolic nanobot resources be embedded everywhere in our environment. In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Kurzweil highlights why Google has taken an interest in nanotechnology and the possibilities he sees for humans as they increasingly become non-biological and form direct connections with computers, augmenting and/or supplanting our natural processes as we head into the era of cyborgs and beyond:
And of course once our neocortex is uploaded to the Cloud, it positions Google perfectly for searching our every thought and pre-thought. While this might sound like an impossible amount of information to upload, let alone interconnect and search, it is being announced that researchers have designed the first nanocomputer that can push beyond the concept of Moore's Law, which imposes a theoretical limitation on the expansion of computer processing power.
The team designed and assembled, from the bottom up, a functioning, ultra-tiny control computer that is the densest nanoelectronic system ever built. A technical paper has been published online in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences on the research. The ultra-small, ultra-low-power control processor—termed a nanoelectronic finite-state machine or "nanoFSM"—is smaller than a human nerve cell.
In their recent collaboration they combined several tiles on a single chip to produce a first-of-its-kind complex, programmable nanocomputer. It shouldn't be seen as coincidence that these developments are happening simultaneously. What appears on the surface to be discoveries in entirely different fields are coalescing rapidly as we approach the theoretical date of The Singularity - the full merger of human and machine - estimated to occur between 2029-2045.
Despite the benign language of futurists, we know that a concerted effort is already underway to manage and predict human behavior for a whole range of potentially anti-human applications. As our free will is also targeted like the cells of our body -- for drug therapy or elimination -- ethical concerns must be voiced loud and clear. Scientists seem content with opening Pandora's Box, then worrying about negative consequences later ... and that is only if we assume that their intentions are benign from the beginning. One should take time to examine the history of military experimentation on human populations to see all of this through a very different lens.
At the very least, instead of the fully realized vision of Human Body 2.0, this might be Big Pharma 2.0 -- a new phase where conventional drugs are incrementally replaced by nanodrugs and nano-fleet delivery systems. Coupled with applications that directly enter our brain to connect us to the computer matrix, we are rapidly entering an entirely new human paradigm. The funding is already there, and a massive amount of money is waiting to be made by companies like Google. Here again, for those who might only see the bright side to this technology, we ought to question who is really in control of it.”
One thing is for sure. We better be sure that this merger of man and machine is going to work as it will be quite a challenge to say the least and the outcome for enlightenment for better or worse seriously in question. We all have to be diligent and aware as this process unfolds to stay on track to enlightenment and beyond with the ability to exercise free will, personal religion and politics as we see fit. All I can really say is “Wow” bring it on, no matter if I get into this future in this life or in future lives.
In conclusion, It is important to understand that as we ascend the stairway to heaven (enlightenment) that if we expect to be mentored by those more advanced than ourselves, we must in turn be willing to mentor those less advanced. Of course this should include all of life and nature. As we evolve beyond abject materialism and materialistic pursuits we begin to see that life is all about helping the ascent of those below us on the stairway just as we expect those above to reach out a helping hand to us. Indeed, from what I have experienced, the more advanced we become the more time we spend trying to advance others when the time is deemed right, and the others are ready of their own free will to advance.
